A New York man has just been arrested for requesting two mail-in ballots for his deceased mother. The man, Wayne Tappe, was a 57 year old registered Democrat from Suffolk County, New York.
According to the Suffolk County Board of Elections, two absentee ballot requests were received from Lucille Tappe last month. The problem? Lucille Tappe has been dead since June. The absentee ballot requests were sent by Lucille’s son, Wayne Tappe. Wayne now faces between 1 and 4 years in prison.
Similar instances of voter fraud have occured nationwide. Just last month, officials from Manatee County, Florida announced a local man had requested a mail-in ballot for his dead wife. The man, Larry Wiggins, faces up up to 4 years in prison if convicted. While it is encouraging to see some of those attempting to commit voter fraud get caught, it makes one wonder how many individuals successfully get away with it.
