Within a two month time frame, a total of 5 people have stepped forward corroborating Tara Reade’s allegation of sexual assault by former Vice President Joe Biden.
Reade claims that then Senator Biden pushed her up against a wall, kissed her and penatrated her with his fingers without her consent in 1993. Reade went public with her accusations years ago but most recently she was interviewed by Katie Halper and it was that interview that set social media ablaze. Within a few short weeks the story was breaking news on several main stream outlets.
Reade’s interview with Katie Halper attracted lots of attention for the fact that it was the first time that Reade went into graphic detail about the assault. She also claimed that the women’s rights group “Times up” refused to support her for political reasons, being that her allegations were against Joe Biden.
The list of people corroborating Reade’s allegation is growing, with a total of 5 now saying that she is telling the truth or providing evidence supporting her claims.
The former coworker
Lorraine Sanchez worked with Tara Reade at a California state senator’s office in the mid-1990’s. Sanchez recalls Reade telling her that she had been sexually assaulted by her former boss in Washington D.C.
Read told Sanchez that “she had been sexually assaulted by her former boss while she was in D.C., and as a result of her voicing her concerns to her supervisors, she was let go, fired,” Sanchez told Business Insider. Sanchez knew Biden was Reade’s former boss, but couldn’t remember if Reade specifically mentioned Biden’s name while describing the incident.
The former neighbor
Reade’s former neighbor Lynda LaCasse told Business Insider in an interview that “This happened, and I know it did because I remember talking about it.”
LaCasse told Insider that in 1995 or 1996, Reade told her she had been assaulted by Biden. “I remember her saying, here was this person that she was working for and she idolized him,” LaCasse said. “And he kind of put her up against a wall. And he put his hand up her skirt and he put his fingers inside her. She felt like she was assaulted, and she really didn’t feel there was anything she could do.”
“She was crying,” she said. “She was upset. And the more she talked about it, the more she started crying. I remember saying that she needed to file a police report.”
LaCasse says she fully believes Reade’s allegations and has decided to speak up now while her allegations are making headlines and while Biden’s campaign is denying them. “I have to support her just because that’s what happened,” Lacasse said. “We need to stand up and tell the truth.” Read LaCasse’s interviews with Business Insider here.
Reade’s close friend
One of Reade’s close friends, who wants to remain anonymous also confirmed to The Intercept that Reade had described the alleged assault around the time that it happened. The Intercept reporter, Ryan Grim, who spoke with the anonymous friend confirmed that the close friend was not Lynda LaCasse.
Reade’s brother, Collin Moulton, confirmed to The Intercept that his sister told him about the alleged assault involving Senator Biden in 1993. Moulton also confirmed that Reade’s mother, a longtime feminist and activist, urged her to go to the police.
Her late mother
Shockingly the most substantive corroborating evidence comes from a segment of the “Larry King Live” show from 1993 where Reade’s late mother called into his show to talk about her daughter leaving Washington D.C over sexual assault from a ‘prominent senator’. The episode aired August 11, 1993, the topic was holding public officials accountable and Reade’s mother called in asking what her daughter should do being in that type of situation.
“I’m wondering what a staffer would do besides go to the press in Washington? My daughter has just left there, after working for a prominent senator, and could not get through with her problems at all, and the only thing she could have done was go to the press, and she chose not to do it out of respect for him,” we now know that the caller was in fact Tara Reade’s mother. Does this prove that Biden sexually assault Tara Reade in 1993? You will have to decide that for yourself.
