Missouri’s Attorney General, Eric Schmitt announced that the state has filed a lawsuit against the Chinese government in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Missouri over the coronavirus.
The lawsuit alleges Chinese officials are “responsible for the enormous death, suffering and economic losses they inflicted on the world, including Missourians.”
A written statement put out by the Attorney General said in part that, “The Chinese government lied to the world about the danger and contagious nature of COVID-19, silenced whistleblowers, and did little to stop the spread of the disease… “They must be held accountable for their actions.”
According to the AP, Schmitt’s office is seeking unspecified damages for deaths in Missouri and the devastating impact the virus has had on the economy.
Missouri’s death toll recently passed 200 and the total number of cases according to johns Hopkins University is nearly 6,000.
